Welcome to this showcase of my Artwork
I trained at Rochdale College of Art and at the University of Northumbria. Since 2004, I have been working full-time as an artist. My work has evolved over time and recent pieces are inspired and invigorated by the wildness and uncompromising nature of the Dark Peak landscape. I have incorporated my experiences of fell running around my home in Glossop, Derbyshire into some of the pictures. Last year we celebrated 80 years of access to Kinder Scout and other areas of the Peak District, without that access I could not do my work.
However, my art also encompasses other themes (which you can explore via the gallery). Perspective is a key element of composition: I love to find an unusual or unexpected point of view, which allows the richness and delicate intricacy of the foreground to shine through. Whilst there is photographic quality to my work, the fine detail arises from the perfection of a technique combining ballpoint pen with watercolour pencil and the whole scene is brought into focus with equal depth and clarity. I have exhibited my work nationally, including The Manchester Academy, The Mall Gallery, London, The Hilliard Society and have had a number of one man exhibitions locally.
The book Take the Long Way Home is now on sale as a quality hardback (some of the illustrations to this book can be seen in the Journey section). I am pleased to report that we have now sold well over half of the 1st Edition of the book.
You can see what I've been doing recently via my Facebook page, Rod Holt's Fine Art.
